Reminders and Resources for Graphic Designers

Just a quick note to remind you all about the importance of documenting your process to bring as evidence when we meet again for your Performance Review. 

REMEMBER
Part of the process is getting stuck, not knowing what to do, and thinking about what you are thinking about. How you respond is your evidence!! How do you get unstuck, find out what you need to know, and document your ideas? Use your sketch books daily. It will not only be a record of your time but also allow you to reflect more easily when writing about your project.

Below are a few supports but remember your class/team is also a wealth of knowledge.
Now is the time to stop winging it.

What does Doc Ellis, a swing, 

and the Bill Brady Gallery have in common?

The Grear Patterson show

...and an even bigger idea of being in the "swing of things". 

Nostalgic moments are brought to the surface as you pass by a Sno-Kone and cotton candy machine upon entering the gallery (btw:help yourself). But the real fun starts when you discover that the collection of seemingly disconnected objects recall the unforgettable and sought after moment when you find yourself "in the swing of things". 

Field Trip 1/23/2014

Junior and Senior Graphics Design students went on an all day excursion to KCMO visiting 4 different location offering a wide range of experiences. While waiting for the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art to open their doors at 10AM on a brisk cold Kansas City morning, we had time for a quick pic under this world famous Louise Bourgeois bronze Spider. There are only six like it and when one the first auctioned for $4 million she became the highest paid living female artist. Louise has always embraced her feminine roles in many of her artworks including this one which is a loving tribute to her mother who was a tapestry maker. Louise worked lived to be 98 and worked right up to a few days before her death in 2010.




Inside we were allowed to take lots and lots a photos from the exhibit featuring the pieces owned by the museum to use in our Blogger/Portfolios.


After lunch at the Nelson-Atkins in the very fancy Rozzelle Court, we visited the City Ice Arts Building. Miles Neidinger's installation piece overwhelmed the gallery space.
The idea behind the piece is based on consumption. We consume the things we value but over consumption can lead to the "ah ha" moment where you realize it was not worth the cost you paid.
